Tarot Card Surface Finishes

We offer several possible finishes for your tarot cards. The corners of your cards may be square or rounded, as you prefer, although we recommend them to be rounded off as it's more aesthetically pleasing and makes the cards easier to handle. Most tarot cards are varnished or laminated on both sides. Our special finishes include:

metallic inking
Metallic Inking
round off the corner card
Round Corners

The minimum order quantity (MOQ) for cards is a competitive 100 sets. But it gets more cost-effective if you order 1,000 units or more, as the price-per-unit goes down against the one-off set up cost of creating the plates for offset printing.

How to Prepare Your Files for Tarot Card Printing

It's important that you prepare your files correctly to make sure that your tarot cards come out looking great. Here, we share a few important tips.

Export PDF format for printing

Export your files in PDF format for printing

change-RGB-to-CMYK

Make sure that you change the color space from RGB to CMYK before you export and take care your CYMK color data is the same in each layer

use vectors

Export images as vectors whenever possible

300 dpi and 72 dpi

If you can't use vectors — if you're exporting bitmaps from Photoshop, for example — then make sure that you set the image resolution to at least 300 dpi

3mm-bleed

If you have a design with colors or images which extend all the way to the edge of the finished cards, remember to add a 3 mm "bleed zone" on all sides to allow for die-cutting

separate layer

If you're not exporting your artwork as vectors, you must separate the special finish design and the printable artwork into two layers

lamination

Remember that post-printing lamination, while we recommend it to protect your cards, can change the appearance of the colors a little

If you're working with a professional designer to create your files, they should understand what's needed to make everything “print ready”. But if you're working with design software yourself for the first time, these are the vital tips to remember before you submit your files. Still, our team of experts will always manually check all your files before we go to press. If we find any issues, we'll let you know and help you resolve them.

Miami Tarot Card Packaging

To prepare to ship your finished tarot cards, we'll package them in the box of your choice—a tuck-end box, cardboard box, a telescope rigid box, or a magnetic closure rigid box—before shrink-wrapping the package. We can also print an instructional booklet to accompany your tarot decks. Your booklet may be the same size as your cards, so that it fits snugly inside the same box, or it can be larger, in which case we can design a special insert to carry both the card deck and the booklet inside a larger box. If you'd prefer them packaged in a simple plastic bag, or simply shrink-wrapped, we can do that, too.

QinPrinting Reviews

Tarot Cards VS. Oracle Cards

From the earliest days, tarot cards—which were originally hand painted—were used both for playing games and for fortune-telling. Oracle cards are a newer development, inspired by the tarot, but not limited to the traditional 78 cards of the Major and Minor Arcana. When you design oracle cards, you're free to choose the number of cards, the names, and the images according to your own invention. Oracle cards are never used for playing games, but always as tools for divination, personal development, or positive affirmations.

Hardcover Board Book Bnding

This binding method adds a hardcover to a standard board book for extra durability and a premium feel. Like traditional board books, the pages are glued together rather than bound, with a printed sheet wrapped over the first and last boards and across the spine. The difference is that a hardcover is then applied, enhancing protection and making it a popular choice for high-quality board books.

The interior pages will have rounded outer corners. The corners of the cover are not normally rounded. If you need round corners for your cover, please contact us.

Inner Lamination

We laminate all the interior pages.

Paper

Board books are made of the same paper throughout, so there’s no difference between the cover and the interior pages.

Most board books feature colorful illustrations, cartoons, or other artwork. So, we recommend printing on C1S paper to get the best results.

coated one side (C1S) paper

C1S paper—also called “coated one side” paper—is paper that has been treated with a special coating on only one side, while the other side is left uncoated. The coated side has a brighter, smoother surface, making it ideal for vibrant, full-color printing of the artwork and text of your story. The uncoated side has a more natural, rougher texture, but in board book printing, this rough side is not visible because two sheets are glued together, with the uncoated sides facing inward. This way, only the smooth, coated sides are exposed, ensuring a high-quality finish for your book’s pages.

Dust Jacket

The so-called “dust jacket” is the most common and practical way of covering a hardcover book. Used alone or combined with image-wrapping, it finishes your book with a professional touch while adding five printable surfaces—front, back, spine, and two inside flaps. We can print it in full colour, gloss coat it, matte coat it; emboss, deboss, laminate, and foil stamp it, too, for added effects.

End Sheet Paper

  • If your book size is 8.5″ x 11″ or less with an interior page count of fewer than 320 pages, then a good option for the end sheets is 140 gsm / 95 lb offset paper.
  • If your book size is larger than 8.5″ x 11″, then 180 gsm / 122 lb offset paper would be better.
  • If your end sheets will be printed and your book’s interior uses gloss or matte art paper—say, for an art book or coffee table book—to make sure the colors match well, use 157gsm / 58 lb gloss or matte art paper for your end sheets.

End Sheet

The end sheets connect the hardcover casing and the interior pages when binding the book. So, there are two end sheets, one at the front and one at the back and both glued to the grayboard cover.

One sheet of paper is equal to two pages.

The total page count is a multiple of 4. When printing and binding your book, we fold sheets into “signatures”.

The maximum page count here is 800 pages. If you need more pages, please contact us.

If your book is larger, say, 8.5″ x 11″ or A4 size, one signature will have 16 pages. So, the inner page amount should be divisible by 16. Making your page counts match signatures is the most economical solution.
